Location Overview

Our office in London was the first to be opened outside China and is responsible for providing pre-departure support to applicants from the UK and Europe.

Our office in London is located on Bishopsgate, in the heart of the city, surrounded by some of London’s most recognizable sites. Positioned conveniently in the square mile as well as being just around the corner from Liverpool Street station, the office is easily accessible to the rest of the country.

The office is responsible for processing applications and Chinese visas for the Europe region.

Edward Holroyd Pearce

Edward read Oriental Studies (Chinese) at Trinity College, Cambridge and has a Masters of Science in International Management from the University of London (SOAS). He is fluent in Mandarin, having studied at Beijing University and also in Singapore.  Edward initially held a position as an assistant manager at China Eastern Airlines before moving to an asset management company with over US$2Billion under management, where he specialized in investments into China.

Edward co-founded CRCC Asia in 2006 and has been heavily involved in various M&A projects, company due diligence and strategic analysis.  He has been published in print and in media such as Businessweek, The Sunday Times and the BBC.  Edward is a founding member of the China Advisers Network, a committee member of the China-Britain Youth Association and plays an active role in other China related societies in London and in San Francisco. He is also co-chair of the Young Icebreakers and has been responsible for running the Young Icebreakers Annual Dinner for the last two years. Edward is a trustee of the Karen Hilltribes Trust, providing water and sanitation to villages in North Thailand.


Luise Schafer

Luise Schafer is a senior international executive with 30 years’ professional experience of China. A literate and fluent Chinese speaker, completing postgraduate studies in Beijing in 1983, she is a sought-after commentator on China’s business environment. Her early career included positions at American and Japanese technology firms in Beijing, followed by a Consultancy role assisting British companies break into the China market. A stint as First Secretary, Commercial at the Embassy in Beijing in the 1990′s allowed Luise to lead on a broad commercial portfolio, building UK-China partnerships across a range of key industries and ministries. She successfully led on the visit of the British Deputy Prime Minister in 1996 in the run-up to Hong Kong’s handover and brought to signature an important bilateral maritime treaty opening up huge commercial opportunities to UK shipping.

Latterly head hunted into the Abacus Group, as Vice Chairman of Abacus’s China operations she grew the business and brand significantly over 15 years, in China and E. Asia, and in 2010 delivered on a new, larger greenfield design/manufacturing facility in Shanghai.

Luise is the immediate past-Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and has held a number of other board positions, in the past, including Vice Chair at The 48 Group. She was honored at the Chinese Embassy in London in 2010 with an award acknowledging her deep contribution to Sino-British relations.

Luise was honoured with an OBE in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honour’s List for services to British business in China.


Grace Abbà

Grace is responsible for the Italian and Spanish Marketing and pre-departure processes for interns from Italy and Spain. This involves managing the visa process and day-to-day liaison with future interns and with CRCC Asia’s global teams. Grace attends the pre-departure drinks evening run by CRCC Asia giving program participants the chance to meet and ask any last-minute questions before they depart to China. She is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with Italian universities, other institutions and alumni. In addition to this Grace is responsible for organising and conducting university outreach trips and sourcing new advertising platforms, bringing CRCC Asia programs to as many students and graduates as possible in Italy and Spain.

Grace is studying oriental languages at Università Ca’Foscari in Venice. Since she was young she had a passion for foreign countries, cultures and languages, and thus decided to undertake a degree in foreign languages. She speaks Italian, English, German and French. After high school, thanks to her passion for English language and culture she decided to move to London to work and gain an experience outside of Italy. She eventually started studying Japanese and Korean at Università Ca’Foscari and is now based in our London office.


Hannah Silverleaf

Business Development Manager, Shanghai

Hannah currently works as Communications Manager for CRCC Asia. She is responsible for communicating CRCC Asia’s brand to UK universities, individuals and institutions as well as managing university, corporate and governmental partnerships. This includes liaising with university partners and the British Council on the Generation UK-China campaign.

Hannah first travelled to China to teach English before returning to study abroad in Tianjin as part of her Masters in Chinese Studies at the University of Edinburgh, where her research focussed on student mobility. She graduated with a BA in English Literature from the University of York, during which time she also studied abroad in France and Spain. Prior to joining CRCC Asia, Hannah was working at the European Parliament in Brussels.


Matthew Bolton

Matthew joined CRCC Asia as the UK Regional Assistant in 2015 and provides support to the UK Regional Manager and the rest of the London team. He is responsible for processing applications, visas, and pre-departure arrangements.

Matthew is currently studying Politics, Philosophy and History at Birkbeck, University of London, and enjoys the range of perspectives multiple subjects allow him to discover. Outside work Matthew enjoys cricket, ancient history and live music/theatre. He is excited by the opportunity to help others gain a wider view of the world and support CRCC Asia in developing UK-China relations.


Laura Ritchie-Roberts

Laura is responsible for managing student applications, conducting telephone interviews and overseeing the admissions process for CRCC Asia’s internships programs.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages (Chinese) and Linguistics from Newcastle University which included one year studying in China at Hainan University. After graduation she spent a year in Taiwan under the The Ministry of Education’s Huayu Enrichment Scholarship which was specifically focused on the study of traditional Chinese characters. Aside from Chinese, Laura enjoys learning foreign languages and is also fluent in German.


Will Perrins

Will currently works as UK Marketing and PR Coordinator for CRCC Asia. He is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with UK universities, other institutions and alumni. In addition to this Will is responsible for organising and conducting university outreach trips and sourcing new advertising platforms, bringing CRCC Asia programs to as many students and graduates as possible.

Will studied Politics and International Relations at the University of Aberdeen, working part time in many different sectors during this time. Will returned from China in 2015 after 2 years teaching in the North East city of Shenyang and has a passion for promoting China to the world.
