Our office in London is located on Bishopsgate, in the heart of the city, surrounded by some of London’s most recognisable sites. Positioned conveniently in the square mile as well as being just around the corner from Liverpool Street station, the office is easily accessible to the rest of the country.
The office is responsible for processing applications and Chinese visas for the Europe region.

Edward read Oriental Studies (Chinese) at Trinity College, Cambridge and has a Masters of Science in International Management from the University of London (SOAS). He is fluent in Mandarin, having studied at Beijing University and also in Singapore. Edward initially held a position as an assistant manager at China Eastern Airlines before moving to an asset management company with over US$2Billion under management, where he specialized in investments into China.
Edward co-founded CRCC Asia in 2006 and has been heavily involved in various M&A projects, company due diligence and strategic analysis. He has been published in print and in media such as Businessweek, The Sunday Times and the BBC. Edward is a founding member of the China Advisers Network, a committee member of the China-Britain Youth Association and plays an active role in other China related societies in London and in San Francisco. He is also co-chair of the Young Icebreakers and has been responsible for running the Young Icebreakers Annual Dinner for the last two years. Edward is a trustee of the Karen Hilltribes Trust, providing water and sanitation to villages in North Thailand.

Laura has been working with CRCC Asia since 2010 and is responsible for overseeing our Europe expansion. Having successfully entered new markets such as Italy, Spain and Germany, in addition to managing our Europe headquarters in London, Laura is very passionate about marketing China to the rest of the world. Prior to becoming Europe General Manager, she worked for CRCC Asia as a UK Marketing Manager for 2 years and is very much committed to promoting EU-China links.
Laura graduated with a BA (Hons) in Advertising and Promotions Management from Bucks New University, in addition to a Master of Science in Corporate Brand Management from Brunel University, West London. She loves to travel, and following on from her studies she travelled through South East Asia and mainland China. Whilst living and working in Beijing, she gained a deep interest in China and Chinese business culture and worked as a marketing assistant developing the online social gaming brand, Kabam.

Cathy is responsible for the pre-departure process for interns from the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia up to and including India. This involves managing the visa process and day-to-day liaison with future interns and with CRCC Asia’s global teams. Cathy attends the pre-departure drinks evening run by CRCC Asia in London giving program participants the chance to meet and ask any last-minute questions before they depart to China.
Prior to working at CRCC Asia, Cathy taught English and French at a Chinese primary school in Shenzhen for ten months, as a British Council English Language Assistant – and travelled around China during school holidays. At the University of Warwick, she focused much of her History degree on China and East Asia. She studied abroad in China, India, Spain and Italy. Cathy has endless enthusiasm for China, and for connecting different parts of the world. She is currently learning Mandarin, alongside colleagues at CRCC Asia.

Alice oversees the global pre-departure process for interns going on the program and helps to maintain communication between the teams in China and the regional offices. In addition, she assesses all applications for the British Council Generation UK program, and maintains CRCC Asia’s relationships with China-focussed organisations in the UK.
Alice first started at CRCC Asia as the UK Regional Assistant before spending a year managing the UK pre-departure process as UK Regional Manager. Prior to working for CRCC Asia, Alice graduated with a BA in English Literature from UCL and spent a year travelling and volunteering in South America, and has also travelled extensively in Asia. Alice has a background in charity work, which she continues in her spare time alongside her current role.

Luise Schafer is a senior international executive with 30 years’ professional experience of China. A literate and fluent Chinese speaker, completing postgraduate studies in Beijing in 1983, she is a sought-after commentator on China’s business environment. Her early career included positions at American and Japanese technology firms in Beijing, followed by a Consultancy role assisting British companies break into the China market. A stint as First Secretary, Commercial at the Embassy in Beijing in the 1990′s allowed Luise to lead on a broad commercial portfolio, building UK-China partnerships across a range of key industries and ministries. She successfully led on the visit of the British Deputy Prime Minister in 1996 in the run-up to Hong Kong’s handover and brought to signature an important bilateral maritime treaty opening up huge commercial opportunities to UK shipping.
Latterly head hunted into the Abacus Group, as Vice Chairman of Abacus’s China operations she grew the business and brand significantly over 15 years, in China and E. Asia, and in 2010 delivered on a new, larger greenfield design/manufacturing facility in Shanghai.
Luise is the immediate past-Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and has held a number of other board positions, in the past, including Vice Chair at The 48 Group. She was honored at the Chinese Embassy in London in 2010 with an award acknowledging her deep contribution to Sino-British relations.
Luise was honoured with an OBE in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honour’s List for services to British business in China.

Rachel assists our UK Regional Manager on the pre-departure process for the European region. She is responsible for visa processing and making sure the program participants get out to China each month.
Rachel is currently studying a BA in Politics, Philosophy and History at Birkbeck University, and enjoys the fact that her degree gives her an opportunity to learn about different cultures and global politics as these are areas of interest she hopes to pursue in the future. Outside of her degree she has a strong interest in travelling. She has had the opportunity to visit many different countries across the world, and enjoys helping program participants become more globally connected.

Hannah currently works as the UK Marketing and PR Coordinator for CRCC Asia which involves liaising with various UK universities, individuals and institutions to promote CRCC Asia’s programs in China. In addition to this she manages our alumni relations, our social media activity and UK PR.
Hannah first travelled to China to teach English before returning to study abroad in Tianjin as part of her Masters in Chinese Studies at the University of Edinburgh, where her research interest focussed on student mobility. She graduated with a BA in English Literature from the University of York, during which time she also studied abroad in France and Spain. Prior to joining CRCC Asia, Hannah was working as a trainee at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Johanna assists our UK Marketing and PR coordinator with University outreach, promoting CRCC Asia on social media, and assisting in seasonal projects such as the Disability Scholarship Program.
Johanna, originally from Sweden, recently graduated from the University of Tampa in Florida with a BA in Government and World Affairs. Johanna has studied Mandarin for 6 years and first travelled to China when doing a semester abroad in Shanghai at Fudan University.
