Location Overview

Our office in London was the first to be opened outside China and is responsible for providing pre-departure support to applicants from the UK and Europe.

Our London office is located in Bermondsey, on the South side of the city, along the Thames, not far from Maltby Street, deemed the new foodie heaven. Tucked between London Bridge and Canary Wharf, two of the major commercial hubs in London, Bermondsey is perfectly located and in proximity of some of London’s best-loved landmarks, including the iconic Bermondsey Street, one of the most ancient streets in London!

The office is responsible for processing applications and Chinese visas for the Europe region.

Edward Holroyd Pearce

Edward read Oriental Studies (Chinese) at Trinity College, Cambridge and has a Masters of Science in International Management from the University of London (SOAS). He is fluent in Mandarin, having studied at Beijing University and also in Singapore.  Edward initially held a position as an assistant manager at China Eastern Airlines before moving to an asset management company with over US$2Billion under management, where he specialized in investments into China.

Edward co-founded CRCC Asia in 2006 and has been heavily involved in various M&A projects, company due diligence and strategic analysis.  He has been published in print and in media such as Businessweek, The Sunday Times and the BBC.  Edward is a founding member of the China Advisers Network, a committee member of the China-Britain Youth Association and plays an active role in other China related societies in London and in San Francisco. He is also co-chair of the Young Icebreakers and has been responsible for running the Young Icebreakers Annual Dinner for the last two years. Edward is a trustee of the Karen Hilltribes Trust, providing water and sanitation to villages in North Thailand.


Luise Schafer

Luise Schafer is a senior international executive with 30 years’ professional experience of China. A literate and fluent Chinese speaker, completing postgraduate studies in Beijing in 1983, she is a sought-after commentator on China’s business environment. Her early career included positions at American and Japanese technology firms in Beijing, followed by a Consultancy role assisting British companies break into the China market. A stint as First Secretary, Commercial at the Embassy in Beijing in the 1990′s allowed Luise to lead on a broad commercial portfolio, building UK-China partnerships across a range of key industries and ministries. She successfully led on the visit of the British Deputy Prime Minister in 1996 in the run-up to Hong Kong’s handover and brought to signature an important bilateral maritime treaty opening up huge commercial opportunities to UK shipping.

Latterly head hunted into the Abacus Group, as Vice Chairman of Abacus’s China operations she grew the business and brand significantly over 15 years, in China and E. Asia, and in 2010 delivered on a new, larger greenfield design/manufacturing facility in Shanghai.

Luise is the immediate past-Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and has held a number of other board positions, in the past, including Vice Chair at The 48 Group. She was honored at the Chinese Embassy in London in 2010 with an award acknowledging her deep contribution to Sino-British relations.

Luise was honoured with an OBE in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honour’s List for services to British business in China.


Grace Abbà

Grace is responsible for the Italian and Spanish Marketing and pre-departure processes for interns from Italy and Spain. This involves managing the visa process and day-to-day liaison with future interns and with CRCC Asia’s global teams. Grace attends the pre-departure drinks evening run by CRCC Asia giving program participants the chance to meet and ask any last-minute questions before they depart to China. She is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with Italian universities, other institutions and alumni. In addition to this Grace is responsible for organising and conducting university outreach trips and sourcing new advertising platforms, bringing CRCC Asia programs to as many students and graduates as possible in Italy and Spain.

Grace is studying oriental languages at Università Ca’Foscari in Venice. Since she was young she had a passion for foreign countries, cultures and languages, and thus decided to undertake a degree in foreign languages. She speaks Italian, English, German and French. After high school, thanks to her passion for English language and culture she decided to move to London to work and gain an experience outside of Italy. She eventually started studying Japanese and Korean at Università Ca’Foscari and is now based in our London office.


Matthew Bolton

Matthew joined CRCC Asia as the UK Regional Assistant in 2015 and provides support to the UK Regional Manager and the rest of the London team. He is responsible for processing applications, visas, and pre-departure arrangements.

Matthew is currently studying Politics, Philosophy and History at Birkbeck, University of London, and enjoys the range of perspectives multiple subjects allow him to discover. Outside work Matthew enjoys cricket, ancient history and live music/theatre. He is excited by the opportunity to help others gain a wider view of the world and support CRCC Asia in developing UK-China relations.


Jason Kan

Jason is from the UK and graduated in 2010 from Warwick University with a BA in Politics and International Studies. He spent two years on the Barclays Investment Bank graduate scheme focusing on risk management, before embarking on a one year round-the-world trip which incorporated being a CRCC programme participant in Shanghai. Upon completion of his travels, he accepted the role of Partnership Manager at a London-based startup specialising in online graduate recruitment.

Alongside his passion for travelling, Jason has an eclectic mix of interests that include personal fitness, sport, amateur theatre, and eating out.


Chris Wearden

UK & Europe Admissions Manager, London

Chris is responsible for managing student applications, conducting telephone interviews and overseeing the admissions process for CRCC Asia’s internship programs.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts in International History and Politics from the University of Leeds and a Masters in History from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), specialising in Korean history. Prior to joining CRCC Asia Chris lived in South Korea for two years, after which he worked at the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency in London. Outside work Chris is a keen footballer and hiker, and also has a strong interest in foreign cultures and languages.


Dominic Palazzolo

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Dominic’s journey has taken him to San Francisco, Washington DC, Tampa, back to San Francisco and finally Amsterdam. Dominic has managed university partnerships with US and international institutions; as well as, created multiple internship programs in Amsterdam, London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Madrid, Reykjavik and Prague – and finally, Manchester.

In his leisure time, Dominic is passionate about oenology, supporting his football clubs, and taking lengthy rail journeys with his wife, baby boy and dog.


Shaun Butcher

UK University Partnerships & Marketing Manager, London

Shaun graduated with a degree in History from Newcastle University in 2013 and then spent a year working as an English Language Assistant in Tianjin, China. Having thoroughly enjoyed his first year in China, Shaun decided to stay and subsequently taught English to undergraduates at a university in Wuhan. Whilst there, Shaun studied Mandarin Chinese and passed the HSK4 exams. Shaun then returned to the UK to complete postgraduate studies in Law at the University of Sheffield.

Shaun has extensive experience in the international education sector and is passionate about UK-China relations. He has worked on summer programs in the UK, the USA, and China for over 6 years. Shaun is also a proud CRCC alumnus and completed a 2-month internship based in Beijing in summer 2016.
