Firstly I would like to very much thank CRCC for giving me the opportunity for me to broaden my horizons, earn fantastic life experience and meet so many great people in my 3 month internship in Beijing. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left I felt I could always contact CRCC if I had any problems or concerns with any matter.

I went to Beijing not knowing exactly what to expect, but after only a couple of days I knew I was going to love what it had to offer, in terms of culture, food and lifestyle. Beijing is a city like no other. It is vast in size and therefore there is always something to do or see where ever you go. The subways, taxis and for me cycling (due to my company) are certainly interesting experiences and you quickly learn the local customs and how navigate through the subway at rush hour!

My internship was brilliant. I was working for Natooke, a builder of customised fixed gear bikes throughout China. I was given the job title of ‘Marketing Manager’ which was somewhat unexpected but I relished the challenge and the work which came my way. Within the three months I was given several projects including work on the website, events management, writing product descriptions for magazines and updating social media. However what I was most proud of was creating a database, from bike sales in the last year, which can now be used to more accurately control the intake of stock, due to the high number of parts and colours which were available for each personalised bike. Natooke are certainly a company which future CRCC interns should jump at the chance to join!

I worked in a hutong in the middle of Beijing which was certainly an experience to start with but it became a location I really liked, after all the best food can be found in these small hutongs!  It also was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD and see the ‘real’ Beijing.

It’s not all work however and Beijing certainly offers up plenty to do on days off and in the evenings after a long day’s work. During the first month, we October interns didn’t stop and we were always doing something whether it was exploring the city’s sites such as Tiananmen Square, SummerPalace, or any of the numerous temples in the city. A personal highlight for me however was the overnight trip we took to the Great Wall which is an experience I will never forget. Many of us would also regularly head to the markets where you can buy almost anything you want for prices you won’t believe, providing you can barter well! With the changing temperature in Beijing it was certainly a place I took advantage of.

During the evenings we would always find something to do whether it was chilling out in a bar or restaurant after work or at the weekend hitting the bars and clubs usually in Sanlitun, Wudaokou or Gulou districts. With there always being interns from the months previous, they are always a good source of knowledge to know what is good and what is not.

Most weeks CRCC would put on an event. These events included networking events so you can hand out some of those business cards, cultural events such as an acrobatic show and with all the new interns coming in every month there is always a welcoming banquet which is a great chance to meet those new interns and pass on your valuable experiences you have picked up.

The CRCC internship program is certainly something I would recommend! I had the best 3 months of my life!
