It was a big decision to join the CRCC Asia program, but it’s the best decision I have made in my life so far. Straight from the application stage to living/working in China, CRCC Asia is there to provide help and support along the way. I had other offers available at the time, but I knew that going overseas, getting international work experience will be more beneficial…and I was right! In this testimonial I want to share how I grew both professionally and personally and how CRCC Asia fitted into the picture.

It is a big decision to take the plunge and investment into your future but this experience is definitely worth it. I am really happy with how this internship in Beijing adventure turned out and I wouldn’t change anything.

When I chose to come to Hong Kong I was expecting two things: The first thing was to gain new professional knowledge and experience. The second was to learn more about china, its people and its culture. After spending almost three months here, I must say that I feel very justified for this choice.

To sum up, these three months in Hong Kong was definitely a life changing experience for me. I would definitely recommend it. Just be prepared and open minded to embrace it.

Special thanks to CRCC team in Hong Kong, Andrea and Serena for their support. Excellent job girls!

I graduated from the Australian National University at the Strategic Defence Studies Centre in 2011 with a Master of Strategic Studies and since then I have been living and working in Canberra. In April I left Australia for a two-month internship in Beijing with an international charity, in addition I am also learning Mandarin at a basic level every Tuesday night after work.

Also, throughout my studies I learnt a great deal about China, but it was only by reading books and articles. Seeing it first-hand and actually living here is a lot more valuable than all the studies and research I have done. There is some Chinese quote which is perfect for this, but I can’t think of it now!

The most surprising thing I have seen was a protest by one woman at Tiananmen Square who was quickly whisked away by the guards and police.

The best thing so far has been watching the sunrise over the mountains whilst on the Great Wall of China.

Do you have any final impressions of CRCC Asia that you would like to add?
Meticulous planning & agency that really takes care of us – from large things such accommodation to small details such as name cards.

Shanghai: the city that doesn’t sleep, the Manhattan of the east, the Paris of Asia. It’s one of the richest, most advanced and modern cities in the world, home to some of the tallest buildings in the world, it’s a fusion of Chinese and European culture.

I urge those considering the Internship in Shanghai program to just apply. Trust me it will not disappoint! You will meet amazing people, gain practical experience to complement your study and learn a lot about yourself. If you can see past the dirtiness, the spitting, the pushing, the crazy drivers and the smog, you’ll discover an amazing city amassed with its own unique culture and a land of opportunities.

As I reached the bottom of the stairs of my airplane, I hoisted my over-weight hand-carry up one stair at a time. I’ve never had to walk up the stairs of my flight before. I felt like a celebrity until I got up to the top entrance of the plane where I’m supposed to look back and wave at the paparazzi. I looked back, took a deep breath and said to myself, there no turning back – you’re going to Beijing…

As I progressed through my month in Beijing as a foreigner this is one of many examples of how awesome and nice people in Beijing are. Even though there were many differences in culture and values, the one thing that stood out to me were that the people were always willing to help. My internship in Beijing went very well which I’ve definitely learnt a lot which will help me in the future. I will never forget this life changing experience.

For my internship in Beijing, China, I worked at an international law firm. I worked during the summer after graduating from my undergrad and before starting law school. My responsibilities in the law firm were more business based given my business background and included conducting market research and sector analysis as well as researching and outlining legal procedures for use in analyzing potential joint ventures, international filings and proceedings.

I really enjoyed my internship in China and I highly recommend CRCC Asia as an internship program. I was very pleased with the staff as well as the level of support I received. I think the program has provided me with a great network as well as many friends who I am still in touch with. It was a great experience culturally, professionally and socially and well worth the investment of time and money.
