Journey as an IT Intern in Kansai region, Japan – Ikdoo Kim, The DECK

Fushimi Inari shrine, Kyoto

Before starting my internship at The DECK, I had certain expectations in mind. I imagined the coworking space to have smaller room sizes, but to my surprise, it was spacious enough to accommodate a vibrant community of professionals. The comfortable and well-equipped environment provided the perfect setting for collaboration and productivity.

During my internship, I gained valuable learnings that have enhanced my skill set and understanding of web design. Through collaboration with the multicultural team at The DECK, I not only developed my interpersonal skills but also honed my knowledge of HTML-based CSS coding. This hands-on experience allowed me to delve into the intricacies of web designing and comprehend the fundamental principles behind it.

The beauty of this internship was the seamless fusion of my personal interests and my major in Computer Science. Being passionate about Japanese culture since my childhood, I found myself immersed in the rich traditions and advanced cultural practices that Japan preserves. Moreover, my Computer Science background provided me with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in web designing, making it a perfect fit for my internship at The DECK.

This summer internship has left a lasting impact on both my future career and personal life. Witnessing how digital nomads work has opened my eyes to the advantages of working independently. The freedom from potential conflicts among colleagues or team members has allowed me to focus on my tasks with greater efficiency and autonomy.

Beyond my internship work, I made the most of my time in Osaka by exploring the vibrant social life and indulging in memorable trips. I had the opportunity to visit Kyoto, Kobe, and Himeji city, immersing myself in the rich cultural heritage and captivating landscapes of Japan. As an anime lover, Kyoto held a special place in my heart, as it truly felt like a holy land for Otaku. Choosing Osaka as my base rather than Tokyo proved to be a wise decision, as it offered a distinct experience from the bustling city I am familiar with in Seoul, South Korea.

My internship at The DECK has surpassed my expectations and provided me with valuable experiences and learnings. The fusion of my interests, the application of my major, and the cultural immersion have enriched my journey. I am grateful for the impact this internship has had on my future career and personal life, and I will cherish the memories of my social experiences and exciting trips in Japan.
